Sannyasa Peeth Guru Poornima 2011: The Dedication

In December of 2009 our Guru Sri Swami Satyanandaji attained Mahasamadhi.  In 2010 after his Mahasamadhi, the first Guru Poornima was conducted in Rikhia Peeth, where we have given his physical form bhu samadhi, offered him in the arms of Mother Earth.  This second year after his Mahasamadhi, we are celebrating Guru Poornima at Sannyasa Peeth, Paduka Darshan, Munger. 

Our Guru had many divine revelations and each revelation took form of a movement. In the early days when Sri Swamiji was wandering throughout the Indian subcontinent, he came to Bihar in 1956. The land of Bihar called out to him. The energy of the land, the spirit and the spiritual nature of the land attracted him and Sri Swamiji recognized the potential of the land. It was in Munger that many of the spiritual realizations revealed themselves to him and it was here that Sri Swamiji proclaimed ‘yoga is the culture of tomorrow’.

Paduka Darshan has been associated with Sri Swamiji since 1958. This is the place where he performed his own initial sadhanas and established himself in higher spiritual realizations.  In the round building on the grounds of Paduka Darshan, which is known as Gol Kothi, Sri Swamiji lived for many, many months every year perfecting his sadhanas during the period of chaturmas, the four months of rainy season during which a sannyasin stays in one place. 

It was here that Sri Swamiji had the vision of his Guru Sri Swami Sivanandaji crossing the river Ganga on the day he had taken Mahasamadhi in Rishikesh. At that point of time Sri Swamiji was sitting here beside the Ganga where I am sitting today.  In his memoirs Sri Swamiji says that ‘I was meditating and I knew that my Guru had left his body.’  In meditation while Sri Swamiji was facing the Ganga, he had the vision of a boat crossing across the river with his Guru Swami Sivananda standing on the boat and at one point of time, his Guru turned around and raised his hands in blessings. Sri Swamiji said he knew that he had received the blessings and the grace of his Guru.  From one of the fly wheels of the boat, water splashed on Sri Swamiji’s face, and when he opened his eyes he found his body drenched in water.  This was the vision that Sri Swamiji had here at Paduka Darshan.

In the course of time, Sri Swamiji established the yogic movement and in 1963, he established the Bihar School of Yoga. Under the banner of the International Yoga Fellowship Movement Sri Swamiji dedicated himself to the propagation of yoga for the next twenty years from 1963 to 1983.  Propagation of yoga was the mandate of his Guru, Swami Sivananda and our Guru Sri Swami Satyananda fulfilled mandate by this taking yoga from door to door and shore to shore.  Sri Swamiji worked tirelessly to bring the message of yoga to every nook and corner of the world and due to his efforts, globally yoga has become a universally accepted subject.

In 1983 Sri Swamiji had another revelation.  He knew that a new chapter of his life had to be written and the previous chapter had come to its conclusion.  Following this revelation Sri Swamiji left everything he had created in Munger and arrived at Rikhia.  In Rikhia the second revelation took shape. Sri Swamiji started to perform higher vedic sadhanas. Simultaneously he inspired and guided the establishment, the vision and mission of Rikhia Peeth to propagate the three cardinal teachings of spiritual life, the teachings of his Guru, Sri Swami Sivananda. 

Just as he had guided the activities at Munger, for twenty years, till the year 2009, Sri Swamiji inspired and guided the activities of Rikhia Peeth, to uplift and help the deprived sections of the society, to give them hope and a vision for life.
When Sri Swamiji entrusted the Rikhia Peeth mission to Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati, he revealed the next vision and he gave an indication that he would be moving on.  After revealing the next vision, he attained Mahasamadhi.
