Kanyas and Batuks
Continued....
Today
these little children confidently conduct all the ceremonies and rituals
at Rikhia Peeth before thousands of devotees who come to parcitipate in
these events.
All guests and visitors who come to Rikhia leave with many memories,
but definitely some of their fondest are of the dynamic kirtans sung by
the kanyas and batuks accompanied by spontaneous dancers that have a unique
style and freedom of expression which is not easily forgotten.
In fact what is most amazing is that these children who come from the
most neglected strata of our society have now become role models for children
and adults from all parts of the world who come to witness their efficient
execution of the most difficult tasks.
In this way these children are imbibing the glorious culture of India
as well as receiving modern education in the field of English and computers,
thus creating the outline for an evolved society. Although the education
is formal it is important to say that in the Gurukul tradition to which
they are being exposed, knowledge is imbibed by the child rather than
imposed on him.
This is a very vital factor to aid him in the process of learning, for
the gurukul tradition till today believes that knowledge does not have
to be brought from outside. It is already within the child. All that has
to be done is to provide the child with the fit environment for the unfoldment
of this knowledge.
The aim behind this exercise is to provide a much needed strong foundation
for the youth to whom the future belongs. For it is they who in time to
come will form the pillars of our society, the nation builders, the visionaries,
the scientists, lawyers, doctors and even fathers and mothers bringing
in new healthy progeny into the world.
