Report of Activities 2000-2001

2000

During 2000 Sivananda Math constructed a water reservoir at Sivananda Sarovar at Nawadih village, for the water supply and irrigation of fields by the surrounding villages.

Sivananda Math Dispensary provided medical aid to 170 TB Patients and 170 outpatients who were treated at Sivananda Math Hospital. Along with medicines, various nutritional supplements have been distributed to those patients suffering from malnutrition. 160 new patients were admitted into the TB project.

Pay phone facilities were installed at Sivananda Math premises for the use of the villagers of Rikhia Panchayat.

From February to June English classes were held for 52 village girls. All the girls were presented with stationery, school bags, school uniforms, toys, games, books, clothing and accessories and the ladies received Ramayana books, sari sets, cosmetics and accessories.

Stationery, notebooks, school uniforms, drawing and painting materials, pencils cases, school bags, games, toys, text books, dictionaries, books for school libraries etc. have been distributed to the students of Tarabad Middle School, Tarabad; Chitkat Middle School, Chitkat; Rikhia High School, Amarva; Rikhia Middle School, Amarva; Dev Sang School, Deoghar; Ramakrishna Mission School, Deoghar; St Francis School, Deoghar. All teachers were presented with blankets, umbrellas, diaries, calendars, notebooks, stationery, Bihar School of Yoga publications and clothing.

During August, on the sacred occasion of Lord Krishna's birthday, thousands of villagers were invited to participate in the Krishna Jhulan program held at the Akhara. Prasad was distributed to each participant. Artists, villagers and guests were presented with clothing, kitchen utensils, spiritual literature, yantras, malas, toys etc. Meals were given for the villagers of Rikhia Panchayat.

2001

Sita Kalyanam was celebrated from 11th to 19th December at Sri Panch Dashnam Paramahamsa Alakh Bara. This event commenced with an invocation to the Goddess Chandi, followed by a song and dance narration (Raas Lila) of episodes from the life of Krishna and illuminating satsangs and discourses.

The most significant part of the yajna was the sankalpa of Rajasooya Yajna made by Sri Swamiji. After 12 years of rigorous and arduous panchagni sadhana, which he commenced in 1990, Sri Swamiji inaugurated the Rajasooya Yajna and said that it will continue for the next 12 years. In this, the first year of the Rajasooya Yajna, Sri Swamiji offered to all, including hundreds and thousands of families from Rikhia and neighbouring panchayats, vastra (cloth) brought from all parts of India.

To September 2001 Sivananda Math Dispensary examined and treated a total of 8470 outpatients, with an additional 128 patients undergoing continuing TB treatment as part of the TB program.

English classes were held for 76 girls at the akhara and they also received school uniforms.
